What you need to apply to the Kliniken der Stadt Köln.

We appreciate your interest in working for the hospitals of the city of Cologne. Here are the most important requirements for your application from abroad.

Language Skills

Please apply in German. For a job, you need proven knowledge of German at least according to the Goethe Certificate B2 (upper intermediate level). This certificate is an important prerequisite for obtaining a license to practice.

License to practice for doctors

For employment as a medical doctor you may need an official work permit (Berufserlaubnis als Ärztin oder Arzt). A work permit is issued by the district government of Cologne.

Equivalence determination for non-medical health professions

An employment in nursing or other non-physician health care professions requires an official recognition of the equivalence of your foreign education (Gleichwertigkeitsfeststellung) by the district government of Düsseldorf.

Work and Residence Permits

Residence permits (Aufenthaltstitel) are issued by the immigration authorities (Ausländerbehörde). A work permit (Arbeitserlaubnis) authorises you to take up paid employment in Germany.
